HOT STONE MASSAGE

Where did Hot Stone Therapy Originate?
Hot stones have been used for as long as 5000 years and originated in India. Healers used warm river bed stones and arranged them along the body's energy centres or chakras. Combined with traditional hand massage, the stones would have a great healing effect by relaxing the muscles and drawing out the pain. Many other cultures like Hawaiian and Native American have nurtured the benefits of using heated stones, but it wasn't until the 90's when the process became main stream and hit the spa scene.

What are the benefits?
The application of heat to the body increases the heart rate and regulates blood flow. Combined with massage, this treatment stimulates circulation, helps rid muscles of toxic waste, relaxes stiff joints and muscle pain and gives a feeling of well-being and reduces stress.

What does Hot Stone Therapy feel like?
The Hot Stones are shaped and polished. They are perceived as an extension of the therapist's hands, who are handling the temperature at all times. The use of heat enables a deeper and more effective massage technique.
